GENESIS WOMEN'S SHELTER
The mission of the Genesis Women's Shelter is to provide safety, shelter and support for women who have experienced domestic violence, and to raise awareness regarding its cause, prevalence and impact. It strives to create a societal shift on how people think about domestic violence. To meet the growing demand for domestic violence services in our community, Genesis remains on the forefront of innovation and services provided. Each year since their opening in 1985, Genesis welcomes nearly 3,700 women and children to help them evade domestic violence and give them hope that a better life is possible. The shelter has had an indelible impact on the Dallas community and beyond, with a mission to “provide safety, shelter and support for women who have experienced domestic violence, and to raise awareness regarding its cause, prevalence and impact.”
WINGS DALLAS
WiNGS is an entrepreneurial, career target organization whose mission is to empower women, fight poverty and impact generations. A Dallas based organization, WiNGS aims to tackle the 34% poverty rate in Dallas by enabling women to create their own start-ups. Their statistics indicate that while 30% of households are female headed, they represent an astounding 53% of the poverty rate. On top of local income inequality, single-parent female headed households are facing more and more adversity in overcoming poverty and WiNGS offers support to do that. Graduates from the WiNGS business program receive a financial coaching, technical assistance, and learning labs. They host parenting classes, entrepreneurial launch-courses, finance management, and career guidance. WiNGS is highly innovative in the work they do to fight poverty through empowering women and offering a plethora of services to do so. We are inspired by their mission and want to promote their organization and entrepreneurs through our show.
